The Paper Bandit

These are a few excerpts from my sketchbook for a project where I was asked to make a short animatic based upon my own interpretation of the Franz Kafka story ‘Metamorphosis’.

I came up with a story about two monsters who have a baby together. When the female monster gives birth to a human baby, they decide that it is too ugly to keep. Afraid of what other monsters will think about the baby, they decide to let it starve, and then dispose of the body as if nothing has happened. The animatic is my own story about rejection and about how shallow people can be. The monster couple are unable to identify with the human baby because it looks so different to them. There is a parallel between my story and ‘Metamorphosis’, as the main character Gregor is also rejected and left to die by his family.
