    Pia

These are photographs that I took of my best friend Pia. I wanted to capture the contrast between her strong outer shell and the softer side of her personality, as well as her natural beauty. The basket chair and the African mask are two objects that belong to her. They act as symbols to suggest the two sides of her personality. The basket chair is almost like a throne and a symbol of confidence and power, in contrast to the African mask which she got when she went to Ghana as a volunteer to teach young African children how to speak English.

They were taken in her garden in our hometown Stavanger where we grew up together. We have been best friends for as long as I can remember. The photographs were all shot on 120 film using a Diana camera.
